The University of Haifa is proposing the establishment of the world’s only research institute devoted to the study of Syrian Jewish heritage.  The proposed Institute for the Study of Syrian Jewish Heritage will be staffed by faculty members who will engage in interdisciplinary research that will focus on Syrian Jewish folklore, customs, language, history and literature.  The goals of the Institute are to engage in academic research that concentrates on the contributions of Jews in Syria throughout history in ancient and modern times and preserve Syrian Jewish heritage for future generations.
