The University of Haifa is developing an expanded support program to help students with “high functioning autism” more easily integrate into university life. The program is designed to assist these students in academic and social activities, offer emotional support, help with navigating life on campus and provide vocational guidance. Graduate students, serving as academic coaches, will help them review their assignments, manage their time and teach them classroom etiquette. Peer mentors will act as “social navigators”, helping to navigate the social world — social skills that are second nature to most.
